Breakfast for Your B&B

In honor of National Better Breakfast Day 2020 and International Coffee Day, our team at CBIZ Innkeepers wanted to pay tribute to the iconic breakfast that Inns are known for. Although not every Bed & Breakfast provides a full breakfast complete with eggs, bacon, and a side of French toast, many Inns do furnish a special treat for their guests.

With COVID concerns still prevalent in the hospitality and travel industries, that doesn’t mean you can’t still provide a memorable breakfast for your guests.

Switch-Up How You Serve Breakfast

Safe food handling practices are always important, but especially in this COVID era. Make sure you are following CDC food handling guidelines. If your Inn typically serves a large breakfast, here are some ideas to do it safely.

  • Serve breakfast in shifts by offering different times to your guests like a restaurant reservation. If available, utilize your patio for outdoor seating when weather permits.
  • Start a small scale “room service” by having guests choose their breakfast options the night before and deliver it the next morning to their bedroom door.
  • If you typically serve “family style”, switch to individual servings.
  • Offer individual pastries that you bake in house or grab from a local bakery. These are great on the go and can become your signature.
  • If you offer coffee, placing single serve coffee machines in each bedroom may be a wise idea to reduce exposure. Don’t forget to swap your sugar and cream to single use packets.

Find Your Signature Recipe

Since Bed & Breakfasts are known for serving some of the best breakfast dishes around, make sure yours stands out! Whether you are using freshly picked from your garden or finding amazing recipes on Pinterest, unique menu ideas and simple recipes can spice up your breakfast options.

Small pastries to your guests like muffins or croissants are easy to customize to the season or geographic region. For a multitude of different muffin recipes like pumpkin streusel muffins, check out Gimme Some Oven

Partner with Local Bakeries

Sometimes you may not have the means or time to prepare breakfast for your guests. No problem! Reach out to local bakeries in your area for an assortment of pastries. If you serve coffee, communicate with local roasters to carry their fresh coffee beans. Building this relationship with other local business owners saves both you and your guests’ time by bringing more local flavors directly to them at the Inn.

Your Secret Ingredient

If your Inn is handling or providing food for guests, make sure you are covered with Innkeepers Insurance. You never know when something could go wrong, and it’s never a bad idea to be prepared. Speak with one of our CBIZ Innkeepers Insurance experts or request a consultation!
